Andrew Lang (1844-1912) was a prolific Scots man of letters, a poet, novelist, literary critic and contributor to anthropology. He now is best known as the collector of folk and fairy tales. As a journalist, poet, critic and historian, he soon made a reputation as one of the ablest and most versatile writers of the day. This Memoir is of Robert Fuller Murray (1863-1894) who was the author of The Scarlet Gown: Being Verses by a St Andrews Man (1891). Murray was among those who do not attain success, in spite of qualities which seem destined to ensure it, and who fall out of the ranks. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.
