The Last American
A short novel by John Ames Mitchell, a publisher, architect, artist, novelist, popular in the nineteenth-early twentieth centuries, was published in 1889. The action takes place in 2951, when a Persian expedition explores the territory of former United States of America, a civilization that disappeared as result of ecological catastrophe. The inquisitive Persian rummage around reconstructing American way of life, till they stumble across a run wild American. The story offers a satirical look at the life and customs of the United States, as well as the idea of wrong impression of the archaeological discoveries that were beginning to be made at the time.
