In 1671, an English philosopher and physician John Locke decided to accomplish close look at the human cognitive abilities. That was the author’s message for Locke’s main treatise - An Essay Concerning Humane Understanding, working over which he spent sixteen years of his life. The book in four volumes was published in 1890. It concerns the foundation of human knowledge and understanding. He describes the mind at birth as tabula rasa filled later through experience. The first volume is devoted to an attack on nativism or the doctrine of innate ideas. It was the first time in history of thought when personality was presented through continuity of consciousness.
