Those who wish to bestow the years of their life upon God, must also give Him the days, the hours, and the moments. Bicker- steth says, " Only think of present duties, the moment's work : our life is given to us in moments, and we shall have joys for each." Every-day work is often looked upon as waste of time, or only fitted for those who have no exalted sensibilities, no heroic purposes, no aspirations after the higher services of God. We strongly suspect, however, that those who can see no true sublimity in the faithful performance of lowly and self- denying tasks, even to the " sweeping of a floor " if need be, will fall very far short of the heroism and magnanimity required for the sacrifices and the services which they think themselves prepared to offer. On the other hand, the missionary will be all the better fitted for his noble career, if he has been faithful in the daily mission of life; the martyr will not suffer with less fortitude, because he has long taken up meekly the daily cross.
