This work inquires into the work of Wilhelm Richard Wagner, a German composer, conductor, theatre director and essayist. At the beginning of the book the author, George Ainslie Hight, tried to describe Wagner’s character and life, telling that “Whatever his faults there was nothing dishonorable or mean about them, and he is entitled to the treatment that is always accorded by one gentleman to another, whether friend or enemy, so long as he does not disgrace himself… The author touches upon Wagner’s theoretical writing and drama, before turning to one of the most famous creations of the composer “Tristan und Isolde”. Height traces the origin of the Tristan myth, describes Wagner’s conception, offers remarks of the musical diction of Wagner’s drama, and observes its text and music.
