INVESTIGATION ON JIGGING - BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH - ROYAL PRESTON JARVIS was born in Riverton, Iotva, Feb. 13, 875. In the spring of 1880 he moved with his pfrents to the Atate of Colorado, and continued to reside in that ate until 1900, with the exception of a few brief visits Eas His early education was obtained in the schools of Crested i utt e, Colo., graduating from the Gunnison High School in 1 93. Iu the fall of this year he matriculated at the Colorac o School of Mines, graduating therefrom with his class in 18. 7. Later 11 accepted the position of assayer in the works of he Bimetallit Smelting Co., of Leadville, Colo., and remained . the enlployv of this company until the plant was permanently clc sed in 1900. In the fall of 1900 he entered Columbia Universit a graduate student, and attended most of the session of 1900 01. In the fall of 1901 he was appointed chemist to the Cia. letalurgiea de Torreon, Torreon, Mexico. He remained with t is company until the spring of 1903, finally filling the positio - of Assistant Superilltendent of the plant. Mr. Jarvis was ap oint, ed to thechair of Alining and Metallurgy in the Washiagt n State College in the fall of 1903, which position he occu ed for three at Knoxrille. v years. In the fall of 1906 he resumed his work in Columbirt University, and received the degree of A. M. in 1907.
