Excerpt from book: FUNERAL OF HENRY BURDEN The funeral of Henry Burden, as heretofore announced, will take place at n o'clock Monday morning from the Wood- side Presbyterian Church. The services will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Kennedy, formerly pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church. The remains are to be interred in the family vault in the Albany Rural Cemetery, and will probably be very largely attended. The Board of Trade will be largely represented, and the Common Council will attend in a body. Preparations are being made by the operatives of the different works at the Nail Factory. A great part of the attendance will be made up of the numerous personal friends of the deceased both from this city and vicinity and from distant cities. A large number will arrive from New York. Few men who have led such busy lives have been able to grapple to themselves so many warm friends. In all parts of the city we hear anecdotes illustrative of his strong personality and almost resistless will, coupled with, and softened by a kindliness of heart and rugged simplicity of manner, that always made even those that had felt themselves wronged his friends. His physiognomy betrayed his character; a strongly outlined, broad, open, even pleasant face, but marked in the upper portion, in the eyes and in the shape of the nose, with an expression of tireless energy, while the strongly compressed lips betokened a confidence in himself that was not to be shaken. If he could begin life over at this time he would in fifty years be again a leader of men. He had in an especially marked degree what is called executive ability. In honoring his memory we honor a great-hearted and a great-headed man, whose fame has really been obscured by his accumulation of wealth.
