The Chess Player's Battle Manual, by Nigel Davies. This was published by B.T. Batsford of London in July, 1998. I was totally oblivious of the book, much less its contents for a couple of years or more until someone in a chess newsgroup asked if I were the Baron whose game was featured therein. I thought not, and was pleasantly surprised to find out I was. And unpleasantly surprised to see the comments the author had made about my conduct of the game. Okay, I didn't handle the opening very well - to put it mildy - but he gives the impression that I lost it when I actually won the bloody thing!
Sometime after that I contacted the author and informed him that I had played the King's Gambit for years - decades in fact! - made a few other points, and asked him if he would be so kind as to correct the erroneous impression he had given in any subsequent editions of the book. Unfortunately, I did not retain either my E-Mail or his reply, but if I recall, he was a bit taken aback, and promised to do so.
The file winter-v-baron-archive.jpg contains a diagram of the game and the score; the file winter-v-baron-archive.pdf contains the game (in proper notation!) together with my contemporaneous notes.
