Solar Electricity Generating Panels for a Tibetan Village in Derong County, Ganzi Prefecture, China
Thanks to the Australian Embassy for providing 50,000RMB which, with a local contribution of 2,500RMB, allowed for the purchase of fifty solar electricity generating panels for fifty Tibetan households in Lianyi Tibetan Village, Gongbu Township, Derong County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China. This project benefits 380 local Tibetans and recipient households by providing children bright light that allows them to study at night; residents are able to easily transport the panels when they move to the grassland and live in tents; villagers are healthier because they inhale less smoke from flame-based lighting; and women are able to work less intensively because they can now also do work at night with the light from the panels.
