This book is written in the form of letters to a friend, written while the author was away in South Africa. The sort of things you would have observed if you were staying on a farm in that country are described, and then round all that, in the usual Ballantyne manner, has been wrapped an interesting tale, so that the book becomes both instructive and absorbing. A very good read, or, if you can make it into an audiobook, a very good listen.
