RG-SCIE: Guia Ilustrado e Comentado para Arquitectos (Preliminary Version)

Book cover
My graduation thesis for the Technical University of Lisbon was to create a 300-page manual regarding the new Portuguese Laws regarding Fire Safety in Buildings (RG-SCIE). The preliminary version was completed, and submitted as graduation thesis, for which the maximum grade of "Very Good" was awarded. The final objective was to publish the document. For that purpose, contacts were made between me and one of the most reputed engineers in Portugal, Mr. Cartaxo Vicente, who was involved in the comittee that developed the new legislation. Mr. Vicente kindly agreed to review and correct my work, and corrections for the first 20 articles were conducted in early 2008. With this first section reviewed, I conducted a public presentation of the work done so far, along with some great specialists in fire safety, containing an excerpt of the final version of the document. However, the project would never reach its conclusion. Shortly after, we were all saddened and shocked by the tragic death of Mr. Vicente, and despite several attempts, it proved impossible to reassemble a new team of experts with the time and resources to continue with the project. It was also impossible to obtain funding that would be essential for the reviewing and publication of the document. Therefore, with great sadness, I had no choice but to leave the project unfinished, and continue with my life. I am now doing a Master thesis in Tokyo, Japan. However, I dedicated 2 years of my life to this project, and now feel that it is appropriate to allow other people to view it, even if unfinished.. It might encourage others to continue the work. My ultimate wish is that it would be made available for free.
