Couvay's textbooks of Latin grammar derive from those of Despautère (de Spauter); see Brunet (II, 639), and cf. Compendium Ioannis Despauterij de syllabarum quantitate (Paris, 1570) Brunet (VII, 332) states that Jean Couvay, the author's brother, engraved the illustrated tables for: Première et second partie de la grammaire latine, contenant les communes qualitez des noms (Paris : Chez l'auteur, 1668). The tables for Les quantitez have been attributed to him as well Binding: limp vellum. Inscription in black ink on verso of back free endpaper: Ex libris Ph.
