Running title: Past and present of Adams County The last chapter (35) is headed 1857, but the work was published apparently about 1880 in a history of Adams County, Illinois, as statistics are given for the latter year. The preface, by Collins, states that "part of this history was left in manuscript but the larger part had been published in the columns of the 'Saturday review.' "
