Changing Young Lives Foundation in Hong Kong contributed 302,000 RMB to improve Hekor Tibetan Primary School conditions to provide a better study environment for current and future students. Local government provided 48,200 RMB. Under the project, 4 classrooms, 5 dormitory rooms, 1 canteen, 2 teachers' quarters/offices were constructed in Tibetan traditional style with local resources. This also, to some extent, encouraged locals to better appreciate distinctive Tibetan traditional architecture. Stones for the buildings were provided by local individuals for free, and the beneficiary villagers participated in decision-making and providing labor to level the schoolyard. Student readers, bookshelves and dictionaries were purchased from the donor's contribution. The project benefits 135 current students and 6 teachers in the school directly, and more than 1,300 local villagers indirectly. The project was implemented by Friend of Rural Community Development in Qinghai with close cooperation with various groups of local government, school teachers, village committee, SDA, and Dr. Kevin Stuart.
