Before he became a famous naturalist, Fritz Müller was influenced in science by his grandfather (Johann Bartholomaeus Trommsdorff), uncle (Christian Wilhelm Hermann Trommsdorff), and other important German pharmacists. Pharmacists were botanists, a subject on which Fritz Müller published 96 papers.
