An Internet crystal ball: Google Trends
Description of a new methodology to find new phrases and topics with increasing popularity in Internet.
By using Google Trends and combining terms (words) of search topics with upwards trends, newly-born or high-growth new search topics can be easily discovered. The methodology is applied to the example topic 'video avatar'.
Limitations of the tool are commented about as well as its potential to find changes in behavior, fashions and activity in the whole on-line population.
