Public Opinion is on the rise about child sexual exploitation by tourists in India. The focus has often been on the girl child, and much less has been done to study and protect male children from abuse. This briefing sheet provides a short overview of the pertinent features captured in our publication âUnholy Nexus - Male Child Sexual Exploitation in Pilgrim Tourism Sites in India: Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Orissaâ. The entire publication is available on our website under âPublicationsâ. The publication is research conducted in 2008, which investigates the extent and nature of child sexual exploitation in the pilgrim tourist sites â Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh), Puri (Orissa) and Guruvayoor (Kerala). The publication identifies key actors who are involved in and/or facilitate prostitution of male children and documents the causes, circumstances, locations and profile of these children and the context in which such sexual exploitation continues unchecked.
