Book cover
Money Moves Strong relationships the basis for insurance success by Isabella Lee One insurance company co-founded by five local financial institutions is not only committed to providing quality services for its customers and intermediaries, but can make use of a network of around 200 bank branches to do so. Hong Kong Life Insurance Limited, which was set up in April 2001 by Asia Insurance, Liu Chong Hing Bank, Shanghai Commercial Bank, Wing Hang Bank and Wing Lung Bank, has recognised that strong relationships are the foundation of a successful business. "As a young and energetic company, we are aiming to build our reputation by providing comprehensive financial schemes and timely advice," says Kennex Chan, manager for marketing and training. With this in mind, the company has developed a range of insurance services for groups and individuals looking for medical, accident and life cover. Two new plans were launched recently to meet market needs. "We keep enhancing our services in order to offer customers an even better selection," Ms Chan says. She explains that the average life expectancy of people in Hong Kong is getting longer which means that MPF payments may be insufficient to maintain a good standard of living throughout a lengthy retirement. Taking account of this, Hong Kong Life has therefore introduced a new Pleasure Life Annuity Plan to help customers enjoy their later years free from financial worries. Also, in view of the increasing cost of medical expenses, they have made available an integrated medical insurance scheme designed to provide life-long protection. A series of other investment-linked products is being planned for introduction in 2007. "To cope with expansion, we are looking for people with energy and an open mind," says Queenie Chan, human resources officer. "Recruits also need to be team players and, in a fast-growing company, must be able to keep pace with rapid market changes." Ongoing training is provided for staff at all levels with both internal and external courses. New joiners also receive in-depth orientation training to ensure they fully understand the company and the industry. Since the company wants staff to have a chance to serve the wider community, it generously supports volunteer teams taking part in various charity events and activities. "In the course of helping others, members of staff also form stronger bonds with each other," says Ms Chan "This is a vital part of our corporate culture and we believe it contributes to our success."
