Il Superbo apparato fatto in Bologna alla incoronatione della Cesarea Maiesta Carolo V. imperatore del christiani

Book cover
Text begins: In Christi Nomine Am. Tutte le cose successe alla Incoronatione ... fatta di 24. Febraro MDXXX sotto il sõmo Põtifice Papa Clemente VII. .. Two roman typefaces figure in the text, the lower half of p. 2-3 and the upper half of p. 4, contrasting with the remainder. Caption title in gothic Woodcuts are reused with some alterations. The first, with the symbol c as signature, titled "Papa Iulio secondo che redriza il mondo" in 1512 (Essling 1759) has been relieved of its symbolism: Julius II striking a cock (representing France) with his crozier, the incised "La liga" (the Holy League), the doge's cap trimmed of its distinctive curve, and the world globe cleared of its earlier symbols, thus to represent Pope Clement VII and Charles V who expelled the French and confronted the protestants. Second woodcut, fame triumphant, appeared in 1519 in the Doctrinale of Alexander Grammaticus Essling 2554, 1759, 326 Sander 1146
