Guangren si (Guangren Temple): Shaanxi's Only Tibetan Buddhist Temple

Book cover
I was given this booklet on 26 February 2010 while visiting the Guangren Temple in Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, PR China when I asked at the temple shop if they had books about the temple. More about the temple, including most of what is in this publication, is available at www.guangrensi.com. There was no charge to enter the temple, perhaps because it was during the lunar New Year period. This year, the first day of the New Year began 14 February 2010. Two elderly ladies sitting in folding chairs in the Longevity Hall said they had come to the temple as children. In February 2010, there were about five Mongolian monks at the temple (one was from Chifeng) and five Tibetan monks (one was from the Labrang area). Across the road from the temple was a large shop selling thanka (painting, embroidery, applique, and painting), deity sculptures, incense, printed materials, and so on, most of which was from Reb gong.
