A story of an orphan boy Pip has a sensation of autobiographical motives of the author, the most popular English novelist of the Victorian era Charles John Huffam Dickens. The basic idea of Dickens was to finish the “Great Expectations” tragically; however, knowing the tastes of public, he avoided grave endings. In Pip’s figure, following g his life from early childhood until adulthood, Dickens shows off not only snobbery, but also falsity of his dreams about luxurious, idle life. Pip’s great expectations belong to the ideals of the 19th century – sponging and profusion at the expense of rich inheritance, a careless life owing to someone else’s labour.
Complicated plot and deep emotionality make the novel one of the best pieces of literature.
